IBM WAS ND 8.5.5 Installation Guide on Windows

A step-by-step guide to installing IBM WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment 8.5.5 on Windows.

As a middleware engineer, you should be aware of installing IBM WAS as you will most likely be dealing with your current or next job.

Some time ago I wrote how to install WAS 8.5.5 ND on Linux and many of you asked for a guide on installing on Windows.

This installation guide describes how to install IBM Installation Manager 1.8 and WAS 8.5.5 ND.

Download IBM Installation Manager 1.8

  • Go to the URL below and download IBM Installation Manager 1.8 for Windows.

Install IBM Installation Manager 1.8

  • You must download the file to start the installation.
  • Extract the zip file to the desired location. In this guide, I will be extracting to c:was
  • Double click install to start installation
  • Click Next
  • Accept the license agreement and click Next.
  • You can either keep the default installation directory, or click Brose to change the location of the installation directory. For this guide, I'll leave it at the default.
  • Click "Install"
  • It may take a few minutes for the installation to complete and you should receive confirmation of the installation at the end.
  • Click Close or Restart Installation Manager. We will now proceed to download and install IBM WAS 8.5.5 ND.

  • Go to the URL below to download the trial package.

Install IBM WAS 8.5.5 ND

  • I assume you downloaded the file from the above link
  • Extract the zip file to the desired location. In this guide, I will unpack to c:wasnd
  • Double click "Install" to start the installation.
  • Enter your IBM ID credentials in the password pop-up window and click OK.
  • Make sure version 8.5.5 is selected on the installation package list screen and click Next.
  • Select a patch version and click Next.
  • Accept the license agreement and click Next.
  • You can either leave the default installation directory, or click Brose to change the location and click Next. In this guide, I will move it to the default installation directory.
  • Select the language you want to install and click next.
  • Click Next on the Install Features screen.
  • Click "Install" in the summary and at the end you will get the installation confirmation.
  • Click "No" in the right pane under "Which program do you want to run?" and click Done
